Lonely the maiden sits and writes
Dreaming of day so very long ago
The times of chivalry and knights.
The tales of times she loves so.
Where dragons ruled all the land.
Where rivers had united streams.
Where rivers met the ocean's sand.
And the minstrels ruled her dreams
Now time has changed for the lass.
The life she dreams of is now gone.
Across the distant mountain pass.
These dreams to her alone beckon.
A storm rises slow in the south.
Sweeping across the plains of grass.
Near the Forever River's mouth.
To steal her dreams yet to pass.
Lightning flashes with thunder.
The earth trembles with fear.
A maiden awakens from a slumber.
Where her life was without a tear.
As splinters from the old oak tree,
Tap at the pane of the window.
She rushes in fear just to see,
How hard the wind does blow.
Alone with love that she can't see.
And blinded by words she has heard.
She stares out at the old oak tree.
To see the vision of a lonely bird.
The dove looks cold, wet and hungry.
Alone in a storm where no one cares.
She braves the wind to go to the tree.
Bowl in hand with food that she shares.
One last thunder is to be heard.
One last flashing thunderbolt!
Breathless and weak as the bird.
The storm rises in a last revolt.
The splinters from the tree fall,
The leaves trickle to the ground.
A knight appears shiny and tall.
And the bird is nowhere to be found.
Tears of happiness mix with sorrow.
Her knight appeared at such a cost.
Through forever and a tomorrow.
The bird now will forever be lost.
As the years go by she does recall.
The storm, that brought this gift.
Her knight so shiny and so tall.
Was the bird across life's rift.
Happiness is what they have found.
The knight sings the bird's song.
He floats now forever on the ground.
Forever together love does belong.
