The Rock Island use to pass thru here.
The train's whistle drew us kids near.
We'd sit and try to count the cars.
Flying past the taverns and the bars.
Six freight trains passed thru this town.
Two passenger trains both slowed down.
We'd take a penny from our pocket.
To have it smashed by the rocket.
The freight trains would shake the ground.
I can still hear their powerful sound.
Some nights had a special delight
Two trains passing at twilight.
These memories I now hold dear.
I will relive them every year.
From steam engines to diesel trains
A fond childhood memory still remains.
